Fieldtrips for 2009 Season
Are you ready for another fun season at the Maze?

Teachers, are you looking for a unique field trip opportunity that provides the added benefit of getting the students lost for a while?  It is our objective every year to expand the agriculture experience for the student and build educational value for the teachers through a fun and exciting fieldtrip adventure.  Our goal is to provide a hands-on environment that encourages students to explore.

We have three types of fieldtrips available.  The differences between the three are as follows:

Fieldtrip #1 The Corn Maze Only (One Hour) . . . . . . . . . . . $4.75

     The fieldtrip includes:

  • The Corn Maze in October & November  We will dedicate one half of the maze as an educational maze. By dedicating half of the maze to education, we can add more opportunities to share the importance of agriculture. We begin with a 10 to 15 minute introduction to the maze and agricultural principles. Students will spend an additional 15 to 20 minutes maneuvering through half the maze with six strategically placed directional clues. The clues will be in the form of workstations. The students will be given information to view or read.  Then they will answer a multiple-choice question.  Directions to the next education station follow each answer choice.  Correct answers will give the correct direction.  Wrong answers will send them in the wrong direction.  Students will rely on reading comprehension, listening skills, reasoning skills, math skills, science concepts, communication skills, and working together as a team. We will change the stations to match your student grade level, K-8.
Note:  Teachers visit Kentucky Corn Growers Association "Corn Education Resource" website for great activities to tie into the corn maze fieldtrip.  This is one of resources we use to develop our education stations.

  • Hayride.  No trip to the country is complete without a hayride.  The students will enjoy a trip around the farm on a genuine hay wagon.

  • One Bottled Water per child

  • FREE Passes are given to each student ($6.50 value) and teacher ($8.50 value) to return to the Hickory Maze with their families.

  • Teacher and Teacher Assistant are FREE.  Teacher and Teacher assistances receives a bottled water.  Homeschool teacher exceptions explained below.

  • Chaperones pay $2.50, which includes bottled water.

Fieldtrip #2 Pumpkin Patch and the Corn Maze (1-1/2 Hours) . . . . $6.75

  • Pumpkin Patch in October.  Each child will choose his or her pumpkin.  In the past, the children chose their pumpkins among the pumpkin vines, but this year our pumpkins did not grow.  After two attempts to plant, the heavy rains would over water the young pumpkin plants causing them to die.  Instead, we will have pallets full of pie pumpkins for students to choose.

If time allows and teachers are willing, we will provide paint for teachers to lead their students in decorating pumpkins.  This activity may extend beyond the 1-1/2 hour time period; therefore, the teacher must agree to take on the responsibility of leading their class in the activity and putting everything back in order for the next group.

  • Hayride.  Same as above

  • The Corn Maze   Same as above

  • One Bottled Water per child and adult

  • FREE Passes are given to each student ($6.50 value) and teacher ($8.50 value) to return to the Hickory Maze with their families.

  • Teacher and Teacher Assistant are $2.50.  Teacher receives one medium size carving pumpkin his/her class, and bottled water.  Teacher assistant receives one pie pumpkin and bottled water.  Homeschool teacher exceptions explained below.

  • Chaperones pay $3.50, which includes one pie pumpkin and a bottled water.

If you want to extend your time at the maze, your class may bring their lunch and a blanket to picnic in our open field.

As an added element of fun, we will have mini-mazes called Logic Mazes.  The students will need to use their minds to determine the correct way to maneuver through the mazes according to the rules of the maze.  Logic mazes are great for ages 8 and older.

Fieldtrip days are every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday beginning October 6 through November 19. We have four one-hour sessions per day or three  1-1/2 hour sessions.  Use our "Fieldtrip Online Request Form" to schedule or decide on a time and date.  We can accommodate 100 students per session.

One chaperone or teacher is required for every six (6) students.  Teachers should assign six or less students per chaperone before leaving the school.  Chaperones will assist and supervise students in his or her group during different activities.  Teachers need to make it clear to chaperones that they are responsible for their group to follow the farm rules during their visit.

Homeschool groups receive the same rates with a few exceptions.  Parents and other adult family member are considered a chaperone.  All children in pre-K thru 12th are considered students.  Any children 1 to 3 years are $3.50 for fieldtrips #1 & 3 (includes a pumpkin or gourd), and $1.50 for fieldtrip #2.  No charge for infants.  Additional pie pumpkins are available for purchase.

Remember we are limited to 32 fieldtrip days. Plus with the threat of many hurricanes this season you may want to schedule your fieldtrip as early in the season as possible.  Mondays and Fridays are set aside for rescheduled fieldtrips due to the weather.  Make your reservations as soon as possible. You may reserve your trip right now by completing our Online Request Form
