The Cornfield Maze
What in the world is a cornfield maze?

Check out our corn maze from 2001 from a bird's eye view.

A Corn Field Maze is a large field of corn with a maze of paths cut through it.  There is one way in and one way out.  The Hickory Farm begins it's great adventure by planting 6 areas of corn that will grow 8 to 10 foot high.  Then with great care, we cut our paths so that you are lost for 45 minutes or more... depending on your directional skills.  If that concerns you, there is no need to be because we have friendly "Corn Cops" patrolling the maze for assistance.  Everyone who has entered, has always made their way out with a smile!!

The corn maze is for all ages.  Families with young children bring their strollers or wagons and head out for a fun family adventure.  As children grow older, the charm  of the maze is not lost but anticipated as the children take a bigger role helping to navigate through the maze.  The fun only increases with teenagers and young adults.  In fact, a nighttime adventure through the maze with nothing but a few helpful hits, a small somewhat adequate map, and a flashlight adds up to a whole lot of laughs and misdirection.  Of course, the young at heart love the maze, too.  Where else can you go to loose the tensions of life in a field of corn and take on a belly full of laughs that will last a lifetime.  Don't take our word for it.  Come on out and give it a try!

Things to bring:

  1. Comfortable shoes for walking.

  2. Sunscreen and a hat for daytime visitors.

  3. Warm clothes for at night.  In October and November, it is not unusual to have warm days and very cold nights.  Many of our nighttime visitors arrive unprepared for the temperature change.

  4. Flashlights for nighttime.  We rent flashlights for those who forget theirs.

  5. Strollers or wagons for toddlers.

We have a concessions which include sodas, juice, water, snacks, hot & cold sandwiches, hot dogs, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, etc.

The Pumpkin Festival

When you come out to the Pumpkin Festival, you should expect a great day out in the country with your family and friends.

Pick your perfect pumpkin among the many.  Once you choose your pumpkin, take it over to the pumpkin painting station.  Children and adults alike will enjoy painting their pumpkins.  This is a decorative way of displaying your pumpkin until you are ready to carve your pumpkin (pumpkins may last less than a week after carving them).  Now don't be concerned about having to tend to a wet painted pumpkin.  After painting your pumpkin, you take it over to the "Pumpkin Check" and check in your pumpkin while you continue with all the other activities.

Other activities include hayrides, corn cannons, logic mazes, and a couple goofy games.

Hayrides.  No trip to the farm is complete without a hayride.  Kick back for a nice relaxing ride around our family farm.  One small suggestion... don't wear a sweater.  You will have a sweater full of hay which is very uncomfortable and difficult to get out.

What is a Corn Cannons?  A corn cannon will launch a cob of corn 200 feet or more.  There are large targets places in the field for you to hit.  This is great fun as you compete to see who can hit the targets the most times.  The cannon is powered by air pressure and appropriate for all ages.  With your general admission, you can take as many turns as you like.  Each participate has 5 chances to hit the target per turn.

What are Logic Mazes?  Logic mazes are mini mazes cut through a small patch of corn.  The objective is to work your way through the maze following rules given at the beginning of the maze.  For example, we have a maze called the "No Stop Maze".  The objective is to enter the maze heading straight without stopping.  When you come to a dead end you stop and make a left or right turn.  Then you continue again without stopping following the same rule all the way through until you align yourself with the exit point and finish the maze.  If this make no sense, don't worry.  Just come and give it a try.

Come out to the Hickory Farm for a day of fun for the whole family.
